Cop punched by man outside of police station south of Gold Coast
A MAN loitering outside the front of the Byron Bay police station has allegedly attacked a senior cop unprovoked.
The 29-year-old Ballina man was standing outside the front of the police station at 4am last Friday when he suddenly punched an officer in the face, who was at the time walking past.
The man was quickly arrested and charged with assault police.
He was refused bail and will appear in court today.
The officer received minor injuries.
Meanwhile, a Coolangatta man has been charged with a number of offences after police found weapons and drugs in a car he was driving in.
Police pulled over the Holden Commodore on Rose Street, Tweed Heads just after 1am on Saturday to speak to the driver.
When police searched the car, they allegedly found methylamphetamine, two knives and a stolen ID card.
The 37-year-old was charged with supplying prohibited drugs, possession, two counts of having custody of a knife in a public place and possessing goods suspected to be stolen.
He was refused bail and will appear at Tweed Heads Local Court today.
