Is this the worst McDonald’s in Britain? Critics slam town’s fast food restaurant as ‘horrible waste of time’
Critics have slammed a UK branch of McDonald’s as the “worst in the country”.
The restaurant in Yeovil, Somerset, has received scathing reviews on TripAdvisor with 80 percent of online commentators rating it as ‘poor’ or ‘terrible’ – not an enviable record.
But local reporters at Somerset Live decided to get to the truth.
Can Yeovil really lay claim to the worst McDonald’s in the UK?
Or have the online reviewers taken their criticisms too far?
Here we separate the truth from the rumour…
1. What do the reviews say?
It seems customers were not impressed, with 73 percent of reviewers rating it as ‘terrible’ and another seven per cent saying it was ‘poor’.
This is compared with just 13 percent of reviewers who said their experience was ‘very good’ or ‘excellent’.
A selection of the one-star reviews are titled, “horrible”, “yet again terrible” and “awful”.
2. What did our reviewer say?
On February 9, two local reporters visited the restaurant for breakfast.
You can read the full review here , but their conclusion was:
“The presentation at McDonald’s in Yeovil could have been better,” they said. “There was clearly room for improvement for anyone intending to dine in when we visited on Friday morning.”
“But the service and food overall were fine, though you’re better sticking to a classic McMuffin than trying a chewy flatbread in our opinion,” they continued.
“For a quick, reasonable value meal, there’s little real cause to complain.
“And it’s hard to think of how this could be the worst in the country.”
3. What did McDonald’s say?
The global brand’s UK division has not directly answered the criticisms after we brought them to its attention.
A McDonald’s spokesperson said: “We’re always disappointed when we hear of any experiences that fall short of our customers’ expectations.
“Customer satisfaction is a priority of ours and when we fall short of these standards we encourage customers to get in touch with our customer services team via our official channels, where the matter can be discussed and actioned as appropriate.”
4. Is it hygenic?
The McDonald’s on Lysander Road, Yeovil was inspected by the local council in May 2017 and food hygiene was rated as good.
In particular, cleanliness and the condition of the facilities and building were rated as very good at that time.
5. Has McDonald’s invested in the restaurant?
McDonald’s in Yeovil reopened after a “futuristic makeover” on November 3, 2016.
At the time, the Lysander Road store was one of a select number of the chain’s UK restaurants to launch table service.
The restaurant was face-lifted with new decor and branding as well as the touch screen ordering system.
The exterior was given a refresh with a new concept that attempted to “reinvent the older look of the restaurant and bring it up to date with a new folded roof concept”.
